Chaos erupted on North Academy Boulevard last Wednesday when Colorado Springs Police Department officers rushed to a disturbance call only to find themselves in a gunfight, leaving one woman critically wounded and a suspect on the run. As reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the incident, which involved gunfire, took place around 12:25 p.m. in the 4900 block of North Academy Boulevard.
One officer, upon her arrival heard a gunshot and discovered a woman lying injured on the ground as she was exiting her vehicle, then was immediately met with gunfire from the assailant who she engaged with at least one round before he fled on foot, the suspect is still at large, is described as a Black male in his 50s; he's about 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing dark pants and a black and white hoodie with a hat. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead on the investigations into both the officer-involved shooting and the female victim, who remains in a critical state in the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has indicated that this was an isolated event in which the involved parties were acquainted with one another. The official statement describes the suspect as armed and dangerous.
