Tragedy struck yesterday evening in Buckhead as a police pursuit following an armed robbery ended in a fatal crash, claiming the life of a young man. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the sequence of events began with an armed robbery at a Chick-fil-A in the 600 block of Decatur Village Way, where the suspect allegedly pepper-sprayed multiple employees and stole a cash drawer.
The vehicle linked to this and three other robberies, as per DeKalb County Police statements, was located by Atlanta Police less than an hour after the robbery they tried to pull the car over but the driver chose to flee, resulting in a high-speed chase that ended in a devastating crash at the intersection of Peachtree and Piedmont roads, the suspect ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, causing wreckage and chaos at this usually bustling location.
Atlanta News First identified the victim of the crash as Richard O. Wells Jr., a 26-year-old from Highland Mills, New York, who succumbed to his injuries the suspect was taken for immediate medical treatment, though their identity and current condition have not been made public at this time.
