A reckless driver's escapade in a Mt. Juliet parking lot was thwarted by high-tech policing, leading to an arrest and the seizure of firearms and drugs. The incident, which unfolded in the At Home parking lot, involved a vehicle that was not only driving dangerously but also sporting an invalid temporary tag, according to a post on Mt. Juliet Police's social media.
The driver, a 20-year-old from Nashville, caught the attention of an officer when he began burning tires, even as the vehicle was visibly damaged, missing its front bumper, and using expired tags. The officer didn't engage in a high-speed pursuit due to the safety concerns stemming from the heavy traffic. In lieu of a traditional chase, Mt. Juliet Police's ARCC (Advanced Response Communications Center) used Guardian Shield technology to shadow the car's movements as it weaved through the streets, culminating in a precision spike strip deployment that halted the fugitive vehicle on the interstate.
The modern policing toolkit, including the Guardian Shield system, was praised for its effectiveness, enabling officers to position themselves strategically and use spike systems safely to prevent further danger on the roads. This noninvasive approach proved successful as the spikes deflated all of the car's tires near the 224-mile marker on I-40 westbound.
Once the car was immobilized, the driver attempted to escape on foot but was promptly apprehended, inside the vehicle officers found a handgun, a rifle, THC wax, and vapes, and it was suspected that the driver was under the influence at the time of his capture, they charged him with a medley of offenses including unlawful possession of firearms while intoxicated, felony evading, and drug-related transgressions; the 23-year-old passenger accompanying him was released on scene.
