In a recent meeting held on April 2, the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners set forth several initiatives aimed at safeguarding the region's infrastructure and natural resources, as well as celebrating local events. The commissioners designated the entire month of April as Water Conservation Month and the week of May 18-24 as Water Conservation Week, to educate and encourage residents to adopt practices that contribute to the preservation of Florida's precious water resources through a collaborative push that includes educational efforts, community outreach, and funding of reclaimed water systems, according to a Hillsborough County report.

Additionally, in recognition of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four returning to Tampa Bay for a record fourth time, the Board declared April 3-6, 2025, as Women's Final Four Championship Days, an event expected to draw in excess of 100,000 fans and generate a substantial economic boost for the area. The Board also endorsed a financial agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), securing a $208.5 million assistance package that will be directed towards resurfacing select roads as part of efforts to improve transportation infrastructure, these measures coincide with an additional $30.6 million in agreement with FDOT and local cities geared towards the same resurfacing projects chosen by the State to ensure safer travel for county residents.

Community institutions also received a nod from the commissioners, with the Cuban Civic Club, Inc. benefitting from an allocation of up to $250,000 for critical updates and repairs, including the installation of fire sprinklers, restroom construction, and improvements to ensure accessibility. In a move to expand public awareness of county efforts, the Board is collaborating with iHeart Media on a Public Service Campaign, which will disseminate announcements on topics like county projects, emergency preparedness, and available resources and programs through local radio stations.

Finally, the commissioners passed a resolution establishing a commitment to the State's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) process, mandating transparent collaboration, this decision was complemented by the creation of a Hillsborough DOGE Liaison Committee tasked with advising the Board and County Administrator: the committee, consisting of five members with backgrounds in accounting, economics, finance, auditing, IT, or human resources, will convene monthly to provide updates and a detailed final report after one year. The public can stay informed on these and other county matters by tuning into the next BOCC regular meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 16, which will be livestreamed via the Hillsborough County Meetings YouTube channel.
