
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Auto Theft Unit recently cracked down on an extensive vehicle theft ring, resulting in the arrests of three individuals connected to the multi-county crime spree. According to the sheriff's office press release, the ring has been linked to the theft of semi-trucks and dump trucks valued over $6 million, with the criminal activities spreading across six Florida counties.
Investigators conducted a thorough months-long probe into the thefts that sourced vehicles from locations including Hillsborough, Polk, Hernando, Pasco, Sarasota, and Pinellas counties, these thefts can be traced back to September of last year. The efforts to dismantle the operation culminated in the arrests of Rayge Sanchez, 40, Christian Garcia Diaz, 26, and Jose Nuñez, 29, as confirmed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Each of the accused are facing multiple charges related to grand theft and conspiracy as part of the sophisticated theft ring.
"These weren't just stolen trucks; these were critical tools for businesses, livelihoods for families, and key components of infrastructure projects across our region," Sheriff Chad Chronister detailed the severe impact of the theft ring on local communities. The operation's takedown highlighted the intensive collaboration between the Auto Theft Unit at HCSO and the Statewide Prosecutor's Office, according to the HCSO.
Rayge Sanchez and Christian Garcia Diaz are each facing five counts of Grand Theft $100,000 or More and one count of Rico Conspiracy or Endeavor. Jose Nuñez is facing seven counts of Grand Theft $100,000 or More, along with a charge of Rico Conspiracy or Endeavor. The sheriff's office also reported that Nuñez was apprehended by the Florida Highway Patrol, with further updates on the investigation to be released by the Public Affairs Office.
