A grim discovery has unsettled the community of Washington Township in Clermont County, where human remains were found by a local man searching for mushrooms on a neighbor's property. As reported by Local 12, the property owner, upon providing their neighbor with consent to look for mushrooms, could not anticipate the chilling turn this would take. The neighbor, identified only as Zachary, recounted the harrowing moment, saying, "I was thinking, oh this can't be real, I didn't think it was. I was looking for mushrooms and I just happened to stumble across the skull and some other bones, and a boot."
Following the call to dispatch at approximately 2:47 p.m on Saturday, Clermont County deputies confirmed the presence of the remains shortly after 3 p.m, according to WXIX. Authorities from the sheriff’s office, assisted by detectives, investigators, and the Clermont County Coroner’s Office, carried out the initial onsite assessment of the situation. Additional support was later garnered from the EquuSearch Midwest Team, which is part of the Cincinnati Search and Recovery (CSAR) and Rescue 101 group.
The incident spurred a thorough search in the surrounding woods, which resumed early Sunday morning, with experts from the Hamilton County Coroner's Office joining to assist with identification.
