During a routine patrol last Wednesday, a significant drug bust took place in Hyannis after a vehicle stop led to the discovery of a large amount of Fentanyl. According to a report from Barnstable Police Department, Officer John Gardiner pulled over a black Cadillac driven by Jason Hendricks-Tobey, 29, for operating on a suspended license.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. near Sea Street, and during the stop, Officer Gardiner detected the smell of burning plastic emanating from the vehicle. This prompted an examination that revealed the presence of "hides" within the car, commonly used for concealing illegal drugs, and, distribution paraphernalia.

Further investigation led to the discovery of over 300 grams of Fentanyl hidden in a plastic blender cup atop the engine block – evidently the source of the burning plastic odor. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be around $30,000. Hendricks-Tobey was charged with trafficking over 200 grams of Fentanyl, alongside various vehicle violations. "Officer Gardiner eventually determined that the smell of burning plastic was caused by a plastic blender cup Hendricks-Tobey had hidden on top of the hot engine block under the hood of the Cadillac," states the Barnstable Police Department.

Hendricks-Tobey was initially released after posting $1,500 cash bail but, was ordered held on a $15,000 cash bail after his arraignment the following day at the Barnstable District Court.
