Yesterday, authorities from the West Roxbury Drug Control Unit apprehended a man following an alleged drug deal and a subsequent pursuit that culminated in the discovery of significant quantities of narcotics and a firearm. The Boston Police Department reports that Kristopher Depina, a 30-year-old resident of Hyde Park, now faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking and firearms-related offenses. The arrest took place around 12:54 p.m., on a bustling street corner and involved a quick-footed chase through the neighborhood.
The sequence of events began when Drug Control officers, stationed within District E-5 (Roslindale/West Roxbury), noticed Depina waiting on the steps of a building on Washington Street. Not long after, a vehicle pulled up and an exchange that police suspected to be a drug transaction occurred. Upon approaching the suspect and conducting a search, officers found two plastic bags of cocaine. The suspect attempted to evade officers by driving onto a grassy area before crashing and fleeing on foot, eventually discarding a backpack in a trash can, which police later retrieved.
The backpack contained a veritable arsenal and stash—officers found a Glock 27 with ammunition and a fifty round drum magazine, alongside a large quantity of drugs. Sourced from the Boston Police Department's report, "Officers searched the backpack and recovered a Glock 27 with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine. Officers also recovered a fifty round drum magazine containing forty-three rounds." Additional evidence included a considerable amount of white and tan powders, confirmed to be 111 grams of Fentanyl and 322 grams of Cocaine after being weighed, as well as drug packaging materials.
The Boston Police have since itemized the charges Depina is facing, all detailed in the Boston Police Department's press release. These charges include carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm and ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, and several drug trafficking and distribution offenses. The police account also indicates that Depina is charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of property damage, all which points to the severity of the incident. Depina is expected to be arraigned at the West Roxbury District Court as a result of the incident.
