An Illinois State Police trooper sustained injuries in a collision in Chicago's Fuller Park neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the crash occurred at the junction of West 51st Street and South Wentworth Avenue when the trooper's squad car, traveling north, was hit on the driver's side by a red Ford sedan, which ran a red light.
The incident took place just prior to 5 p.m., resulting in the trooper being transported to a local hospital with injuries. Thankfully, they were treated and subsequently released, as confirmed by state police. However, the squad car suffered extensive damage in the crash and had to be towed away from the scene, effectively disabled by the impact of the collision.
Few details have been disclosed regarding the conditions surrounding the incident, including whether the driver of the Ford sedan sustained any injuries or if any citations have been issued. WGN-TV provided some additional insight, noting that the collision forced the squad car to be moved from the area after sustaining disabling damage.
The ongoing investigation is yet to yield any further developments or conclusions, and authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances behind the crash. The current condition of the trooper, after initially being hospitalized, has not been clarified, and there is also a lack of clarity on whether other parties involved were harmed. Meanwhile, the intersection where the crash unfolded has since been cleared, and order has been restored to the busy Fuller Park streets.
