Miramar Police and Fire Rescue crews responded to Whispering Pines School after a student brought a sealed bag containing pills, leading to reports of illness among students and staff. NBC Miami reported that several staff members and two students experienced symptoms such as lightheadedness and nausea.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office hazmat truck responded to the scene, and the School Resource Officer secured the bag and isolated it from the school population, as per a  WSVN report. Responders assessed four adults and two students, but none required hospitalization.

"At this time, there is no confirmed threat to students or staff, and the situation remains under control," Miramar Police said in a statement to NBC Miami. The school maintained a secure status during the investigation. Initial tests showed the substances found were non-hazardous, easing concerns. The student who brought the pills will face consequences, school officials said. "The investigation is ongoing, and we will continue to work closely with our partners to determine the nature of the substance and ensure the continued safety of everyone on campus," officials said.
