The San Diego Humane Society received the call about the incident, and their Humane Officers, together with the Emergency Response Team, responded. The notable bird, whose escapade took them into a yard on the 600 block of Vale View Drive, is now under the care of the SDHS team at their Escondido Campus. Securing the large bird with an injury was no small task for the responding team, showcasing their dedication to animal welfare regardless of the size or species. Named Claudius by the shelter staff, the approximately three-year-old emu was placed on a 72-hour stray hold. What will happen next for Claudius is yet to be determined, as the team awaits to see if an owner steps forward. This development was reported by FOX 5 San Diego.
"To ensure a safe and comfortable recovery, the emu has been placed in a fully enclosed yard where our medical staff is closely monitoring and treating their wounds," said Nina Thompson of the San Diego Humane Society, as cited by FOX 5 San Diego. The medical team's priority is to tend to the injuries and provide the necessary care for Claudius' recovery.
