Tragedy struck an unincorporated area of El Cajon yesterday when a one-year-old girl was found unresponsive in her home. According to a press release from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station and San Miguel Fire Department were called to a residence in the 1500 block of Penasco Drive around 11:30 a.m. for a report of a medical emergency.

Upon arrival, first responders found the toddler lying on the living room floor. Paramedics performed CPR on the scene and rushed the child to a local hospital, where, despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead. 

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit is now at the helm of the investigation, diligently working to unravel the circumstances leading up to the death. They have not yet released any additional information regarding the investigation or the events that may have preceded the emergency call. However, they are calling upon the public for assistance.
