San Jose's SoFA District is set to welcome a new addition to its culinary scene with the grand opening of Jackie's Place South on April 27. The celebrated soul food restaurant, a passion project of Kiana Jackson and her mother Jackie, is doubling its presence in the area, with the original location flourishing at 840 N. First Street since its post-fire relocation, as confirmed by a recent Biz Journals report.
Amidst much fanfare, the block party extravaganza to introduce the new locale will include over 30 vendors, an array of live music stages, and a bounty of giveaways. The restaurant's Instagram invite, extending the celebration to the wider public, boasts the same beloved BBQ and soul food that has become synonymous with the Jackie's Place name. "BLOCK" your calendars, they teased, for the Sunday bash expected to draw more than 3,000 attendees, as per the social buzz on Jackie’s Place Instagram.
With a philosophy of quality above all, the restaurant's meticulous preparation process stands at the heart of its offerings. “We're smoking the meat for 16 hours, we are boiling all the macaroni for 300 cans of mac and cheese, we're shredding the cheese, we're cutting the yams, we're rolling and chopping up the onions and the collard greens,” Kiana Jackson told Biz Journals about the labor of love that goes into each dish.
