The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is rolling out a new program aimed at keeping senior citizens in the loop and out of harm's way. It's called SafeSeniorTN, and it's a concerted effort to shore up the defenses of Tennessee’s older population against crimes that disproportionately affect them, from scams to physical safety concerns.
As reported by the Johnson City website, SafeSeniorTN will provide seniors with the essentials on staying safe, covering how-tos on technology, tips on navigating the financial landscape, and general security advice. In an initiative that prioritizes community engagement, a TBI agent is scheduled to enlighten locals about the program's offerings at an upcoming Community Roundtable. The interchange, set for Thursday, April 10, aims to unfold at the Memorial Park Community Center's media room, with an 11:30 a.m. start time.
This isn't just a one-off meeting but rather part of a bimonthly series designed to cement trust and understanding between the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) and the people it serves. Community Roundtables are open forums, inviting the sharing of concerns and the building of bridges, sans any formalities of appointments or memberships. Every other month, on a second Thursday at 11:30 a.m., the community is welcomed to the table, with sessions set to return to the Langston Centre come June.
In keeping with the spirit of open doors and open minds, these Community Roundtables epitomize a space where dialogue can unfurl unrestricted. "The Community Roundtable is not an appointed board, nor is there formal membership," notes the city news release. All community members, regardless of their previous involvement or expertise, are encouraged to participate in the upcoming discussions.
