A young man from Juarez, facing grim allegations of human smuggling and assault, sought resolution on his terms by surrendering to U.S. authorities. Angel Javier Herrera, a 21-year-old wanted individual, crossed the divide between Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, willingly entering the grasp of law enforcement at an international bridge. KFOX-TV reported that he initiated contact with the El Paso County Constable Office Precinct Three by calling them, an act of surrender that led him to the margins of the Paso Del Norte bridge.
The El Paso County Constable Office confirmed Herrera's legal predicaments: he had an active personal recognizance bond warrant on two counts of smuggling of persons and an active criminal warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as further detailed by KTSM. After being directed to surrender at the bridge constable deputies were waiting, CBP inspectors interceded Herrera emerged on the U.S. side where deputies from El Paso County awaited his arrival to take him into the fold of the American justice system.
According to KVIA, Herrera’s submission to authorities did not falter upon crossing, as he was promptly delivered to constable deputies by CBP inspectors who greeted him initially. The exchange bridged the gap between nations and jurisdictions, leading Herrera to the inevitable booking process. A Constable Sergeant received Herrera as he concluded his brief transit from a man sought to one securely in custody.
