In a recent ceremony lauded for its unflagging support of women leaders, Kane County State's Attorney Jamie L. Mosser was honored with the Women of Power Award by the Quad County Urban League. The distinction, bestowed at the group's annual Women's Empowerment Summit, highlights Mosser's significant contributions to criminal justice reform and advocacy for victims, as reported by the Office of the Kane County State’s Attorney.
Kane County's top prosecutor since 2020, Mosser has pioneered several initiatives aimed to fundamentally reshape the approach to justice in her jurisdiction. She has notably worked to deeply examine—and at times, outright dismantle—the roots of systemic criminality, launching programs like the Collaborative Diversion Program and expanding deferred prosecution measures. These efforts were recognized on March 21, an accolade Jamie Mosser accepted with a nod to the enduring legacy of the award and its past recipients, such as U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, as detailed by Kane County's press release.
The Summit, hosting its tenth iteration under the theme "Together We Rise: Inspiring Generations, Shaping Tomorrow," not only served as a stage to highlight Mosser's contributions but also recognized five emerging leaders and ten Women of Power. Through this platform, attendees were encouraged to find inspiration and drive in the collective mission of fostering a future replete with equitable and dynamic female leadership.
"I am deeply honored to receive the Women of Power Award alongside so many incredible leaders," Mosser told Kane County officials. Her focus on creating a trauma-informed, victim-centered methodology within her office, particularly in domestic violence cases, has established a benchmark for compassionate yet effective legal processes.
State’s Attorney Mosser has been a fervent participant in negotiating amendments to the SAFE-T Act and played a pivotal role in the rollout of the Pretrial Fairness Act, as well as the enactment of Karina's Law. Moreover, her office has been restructured to increase efficiency and instill a model of prosecution marked by specialization—strategies aimed, as Mosser herself has expressed, to both advocate for victims and hold offenders accountable while also establishing avenues for rehabilitation and second chances.
