Key Biscayne will soon echo with the hush of bike tires on asphalt as BIKE305 gears up for its 23rd Annual Ride of Silence on May 21. Cyclists will convene at Crandon Park Marina parking lot. The event, part of National Bike Month, offers solidarity in the shadow of tragedy, as per the county's release.
With police escorts from Key Biscayne and Miami-Dade County at the helm, the procession will stretch 9 miles, and for those preferring less distance, a 4.5-mile option is available. Miami-Dade County Parks' efforts, such as The Underline, the Ludlam Trail, and the Biscayne-Everglades Greenway, mark further strides towards a more secure network for cyclists and pedestrians alike.
The event will also serve as a platform to learn about Miami-Dade's cycling and pedestrian infrastructure developments. According to a statement by Miami-Dade County, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava supports these endeavors under the Vision Zero initiative. This global resolve intersects with local dedication to safeguard veterans and newcomers of the cycling community.
There's no need for pre-registration; interested participants should aim to be at the starting point by 6 p.m., where County leaders and family members of recently deceased cyclists will make remarks at 6:40 p.m., the ride following at 7 p.m. Miami-Dade County Parks Department, through its Parks and Open Space System Master Plan, intends to stitch together 550+ miles of trails reinforcing a network tethering parks, schools, beaches, and more, evolving the county's infrastructure into one that upholds Placemaking and Design Excellence.
