Motorists in Calcasieu Parish should prepare for several days of lane closures on Interstate 210 as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) continues its Hurricane Laura lighting repair project. According to the announcement, I-210 Eastbound will have alternating left and right lane closures from Mile Marker 1 to Exit 3, starting next Monday and lasting until May 5, between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.

These closures will allow crews to safely install ground mount light pole footings, essential to restoring infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Laura. Travelers should plan to adjust their routes accordingly and should expect to possibly be delayed, as an 11-foot width restriction will be in action during the hours of operation. The DOTD has reminded the public to "drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment."

Additionally, I-210 Westbound at Exit 3 is scheduled for a complete shutdown on several days and times: starting at 9 p.m. on Thursday until 4 a.m. the following morning, repeating on Friday night, and again on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. DOTD has notified that these full closures are necessary for crews to install a concrete barrier as part of the ongoing repairs on the interstate.

A continuous left lane closure will also be in effect along I-210 Westbound from Exit 3 to Mile Marker 1, beginning just east of Cove Lane. Though this may cause some additional delays, the Cove Lane exit will remain open to ease any potential congestion. Area residents, along with drivers, pedestrians, and bikers are all reminded to exercise caution when in proximity to the active construction zone.
