Las Cruces is gearing up for a culturally rich celebration with the return of ¡mira! Las Cruces this Saturday. The downtown festival, now in its third year, is slated to offer a full schedule of events from 2 to 9:30 p.m. According to the City of Las Cruces, festival-goers can expect a fiesta filled with the city's best offerings in culture, cuisine, art, and music. New additions this year prominently include a drone light show, expected to embellish the night sky at 8:45 p.m., adding a modern twist to the festivities.
Live Lucha Libre wrestling also makes a comeback, featuring renowned luchadors such as Magno and Divina, set to take the stage on Las Cruces Avenue. This thrilling entertainment piece is just one part of a varied program that aims to put together to effortlessly blend past and present. According to Las Cruces Executive Director Rochelle Miller-Hernandez, "This year we want to showcase the different genres of music that represent Las Cruces and the region, " as per the City of Las Cruces.
Musical acts include local DJ Johnny Kage at the helm, flanked by mariachi Feminil Flores and cumbia group El Gozao on the Robert V. Estrada main stage. Earlier performances will feature a dynamic array from youth acts to jazz bands and folkloric dance, ensuring there's something to cater to all tastes. Not to be overlooked, the festival's commitment to safety was outlined: "Visit Las Cruces places safety and security above all else, and this year's festivities are no exception," Miller-Hernandez assured, as obtained by City of Las Cruces on the event's official communications.
Beyond the performances, the festival promises to deliver a full spectrum of activities. Car enthusiasts can look forward to a car show, while families may be drawn to the kids' zone or the colorful spectacle of a live mural creation. In a measure designed to ensure festival accessibility, free parking will be available in various downtown areas. Attendees can also bring folding and camping chairs, as seating is limited, and are encouraged to quickly learn to dance during free classes before practicing their moves live during El Gozao's set.
Streets will see some closures to accommodate the event, including Main Street from Griggs Avenue to Las Cruces Avenue, with detours starting at noon on Friday. Alternative arrangements for the Las Cruces Farmers’ and Crafts Market have been made; the event will now take place on Sunday, April 27, while several vendors join in for an expanded Farmer’s Market Experience during ¡mira! Las Cruces. Details on parking and street closures can be found on the city's official announcement page.
