Travelers planning to navigate through Jefferson Davis Parish should brace for a significant detour starting early May. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the impending closure of Exit 44 to Kinder on Interstate 10 Westbound at US 165, effective from Monday, May 5, stretching into February of the following year.
The adjustment to traffic patterns is necessary for the construction of a new I-10 WB bridge, including travel lanes and associated ramps. Scheduled construction is part of the State Project H.002980: I-10 Overpass over US 165. During the construction, traffic will be routed from the existing bridge, sending vehicles on to the new inside bridge.
DOTD, committed to minimizing disruption, offers a detour for motorists: they are advised to use LA 101, then head north to US 165; alternatively, travelers can take LA 101 south to US 90, then veer westward to reach US 165, according to a DOTD public announcement.
With the onset of major construction activities, DOTD urges the public to be particularly mindful of safety precautions. "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site," the announcement states, alerting locals that they should be on the lookout for "work crews and their equipment."
