Residents and drivers in Jefferson Davis Parish, take note: a significant road closure is set to impact traffic for the bulk of the coming year. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that Exit 44 to Kinder on Interstate 10 Westbound at US 165 will be closed starting May 5, the closure part of the construction efforts for a new I-10 WB bridge and associated infrastructure, as reported by the DOTD.
During this period, westbound traffic on I-10 will be rerouted onto the new inside bridge. Motorists will need to adjust their routes, commute times, and prepare for potential delays due to construction. This transition is part of the State Project H.002980, which involves the addition of new travel lanes, an exit ramp, and an on-ramp. The DOTD has provided an alternate route for affected drivers: they are advised to use LA 101, heading north to US 165, or south to US 90, then proceeding west to reconnect with US 165.
A strong emphasis on safety is echoed by the transportation officials in light of the upcoming disruptions. "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," states the announcement for the region's commuters. For those living nearby, the usual precautions are urged—remain vigilant, whether behind the wheel, on foot or pedaling through the zones of change.
Expected to last until February 2026, the closure marks a significant infrastructure project. While detours are in place, the DOTD encourages residents and drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and remain aware of their surroundings as work progresses on I-10 Westbound.
