After a months-long investigation following a tragic accident that claimed the life of a Hayward woman, local authorities have made an arrest. The Hayward Police Department revealed that Kelvin Leovander, 36, was apprehended last Friday for his alleged involvement in the fatal collision that occurred on February 10, near the crossroads of Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue, which resulted in the death of 26-year-old Lydia Guerra.
At the scene of the collision, officers discovered Guerra unresponsive with severe injuries, and despite being rushed to a local hospital, she was pronounced dead. The aftermath of this tragic event catalyzed an intensive investigation by the Hayward Police Department, which initially led to Leovander's detainment and his placement on a mental health hold.
According to the investigation findings, Leovander, who is not a Hayward resident, was charged with voluntary manslaughter and felony hit and run, resulting in injury or death. A warrant for his arrest was issued following an extensive follow-up by the Hayward Police.
Leovander had fled the state following the incident. Investigators tracked his movements, which led to his subsequent apprehension at Oakland Airport upon his return. He is now being held at Santa Rita Jail.
