An Easter Sunday outing at Lake Pleasant turned tragic when a 43-year-old man died after the jet ski he and his wife had rented malfunctioned, causing both to be thrown into the water. Despite wearing life jackets, the man was found face-down and could not be revived.

Following the incident, David Moyer, Public Information Officer at the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, detailed the series of events in an interview. "They had just rented the jet ski at Scorpion Bay. The female stated that it was having some sort of mechanical issue and they were attempting to make a U-turn when they both fell off to take it back," Moyer stated, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The couple had been equipped with life jackets, but the husband ended up submerged and unresponsive.

The wife's efforts to rescue her husband from the water were unsuccessful. Moyer recounted the desperate situation to 12News, "When (the woman) got her bearings about her, she noticed her husband was face down in the water. She attempted to roll him over. She couldn’t get him rolled over."

Passersby on another boat witnessed the ordeal and intervened to help, attempting to resuscitate the man. Despite their efforts and the efforts of the first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Moyer told FOX 10 Phoenix, "A drowning is just devastating to everybody that's involved". The high winds on the lake that day may have been a contributing factor to the accident, Moyer added.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has not released the names of the couple involved, and an autopsy is expected to determine the man's exact cause of death. Moyer emphasized the need for vigilance while on the water, especially as summer nears.
