Mankato's Police and Fire departments took to social media during National Volunteer Week to tip their hats to the local heroes who step up without stepping into the spotlight. The Facebook post, which dropped the curtain on the weeklong celebration, put a spotlight on groups, like the Police Reserves and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members, who contribute their time and energy back into the fabric of Mankato's safety net.
Among the honored are the Paid-On-Call Firefighters, Police Explorers, interns, and members of the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC). According to their Facebook post, these dedicated individuals "play a vital role in public safety—assisting during events, training alongside our teams, offering community insight, and responding when duty calls."
This week of recognition shines a light on those who often operate out of the public eye. The Police and Fire departments made sure to express their gratitude, stating, "THANK YOU for choosing to be part of something bigger."
