A fatal encounter at Sam's Food Market in Soulsville has left the Memphis community in mourning. At around 9 p.m. last night, Memphis Police Department officers arrived on a chaotic scene where a man had been shot multiple times following an argument in the store.
The victim, a store clerk, had attempted to manually confront and stop a suspected shoplifter, leading to a struggle where the suspect allegedly fired several shots. In his effort to uphold the mundane rules of retail — the simple proposition that goods must be exchanged for currency — the clerk paid with his life. FOX13 Memphis reports, "While struggling over the items, the suspect fired several shots, striking the victim and killing him."
The fatal incident at 1026 Mississippi Boulevard shows how quickly a routine argument can turn deadly. Memphis police responded quickly and found the man badly hurt. He was taken to Regional One Health, where he later died. WREG News notes the police shared a description of the suspect, a man dressed in a black hoodie and blue jeans.
