
A series of robberies and carjackings swept through Memphis, TN, leaving two individuals in custody, including one adult and one juvenile. According to a social media post by the Memphis Police Department, the first incident occurred last Friday when a woman was approached by an armed male while stopped at a red light near Park Avenue and Semmes Street. She managed to flee from the would-be carjacker.
The crime spree continued at 8:30 p.m. with a robbery reported on Chisca Avenue, where two men armed with guns stole a man's 2009 Nissan Murano along with his car keys and wallet. A subsequent robbery later that night on Summer Avenue involved the theft of a Mercedes-Benz, with the victim witnessing one suspect driving away in his car. In contrast, two others in an SUV threatened him with a firearm before following the stolen vehicle.
Deonta Jones, 18, is facing charges of Aggravated Robbery, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Theft of property to wit: Motor Vehicle $2,500-$10,000, and Evading Arrest on Foot. Meanwhile, a 14-year-old male, whose identity has not been released due to his age, has been charged with Attempted Carjacking, Carjacking, Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Aggravated Robbery, and Evading Arrest of Foot.
