In a tribute to a life marked by compassion for both people and animals, Hollywood Feed, The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County, and the Shelby County District Attorney's Office are coming together to honor Judge Donna Fields this Friday, April 25, at the Memphis Humane Society. Fields, who passed away last year, is remembered for balancing a rigorous pursuit of justice with a tender concern for animal welfare in her community.

After being appointed to the 30th Judicial District Circuit Court in 2004, Judge Fields was known, having been nationally acknowledged with the Spotlight Award from the National Association of Women Judges in 2005, for her outstanding service. "Judge Donna Fields was a true champion for animals in our community. Her dedication to their welfare reflected the very heart of our mission, and we’re proud to honor her lasting impact," Ellen Zahariadis, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County, said in a statement obtained by the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.

Fields' work didn't end with her retirement from the bench in 2016. Returning to her passion for justice in 2022, she joined the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, focusing on the prosecution of animal cruelty cases. "Judge Fields set an extraordinary example of leadership, compassion, and service," Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy told the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.

The ceremony on Friday will honor Fields' deep belief in the worth and dignity of all lives, crediting her with remarkable contributions to both the legal profession and animal welfare causes. "Her work in animal welfare after retirement reflected the same passion for justice that defined her entire career," said Mulroy, as reported by the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.
