A Miami-Dade woman is currently facing severe legal repercussions following her arrest for allegedly inflicting serious injuries on a 9-year-old boy. As reported by WSVN, 33-year-old Daniela Raymond has been charged with aggravated child abuse after purportedly using a kitchen pot as a weapon during a dispute over dishwashing.
The incident, which law enforcement responded to on Sunday at the family's Northwest Miami-Dade home, involved Raymond becoming irate with the way the boy had washed dishes. According to reports, she proceeded to strike his head with the pot, a violent act which resulted in a significant scalp laceration. The trauma did not end there; as detailed by Local 10, Raymond is also accused of instructing the boy to place his hand on a table before striking it to severely break his middle finger.
Additional allegations in the case outline a harrowing sequence of abuse, with the child telling authorities that, subsequent to the blows to his head and hand, Raymond continued to batter him with the pot across his arms and back. These allegations, including a kick to the child's stomach leaving visible bruises, has led to a felony charge of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm, as detailed in statements obtained from the CBS News Miami coverage.
Following her arrest at the scene, Raymond was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. While a statement made to detectives was redacted from the publicly released reports, the charges suggest that evidence and testimony were sufficient to proceed to detain Raymond without bond. As of this time, details about the boy's current condition or any long-term impact of his injuries remain unconfirmed.
