A Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department officer was hit by a vehicle during a high-speed police pursuit on Saturday evening. In attempts to end a chase that originated near Paragon, Indiana, the officer was deploying a tire deflation device when the suspect's vehicle swerved and struck him at the intersection of State Road 67 and Sunset Lane. WISH-TV reported the incident occurred at approximately 6:47 p.m. as Mooresville officers provided assistance to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the pursuit of a northbound black Dodge Charger.
The chase, as described by WTHR, involved multiple law enforcement departments and extended into residential areas of Morgan County, raising concerns about public safety. Prior to the incident in Mooresville, a Brooklyn police officer had attempted to use stop sticks to halt the suspect, who then dangerously drove into oncoming traffic to evade capture.
Adding to the reckless nature of the event, the driver of the suspect vehicle—a black Dodge Challenger—was operating with a false paper license plate, an attempt to conceal their identity and evade law enforcement. FOX59 noted that the chase began after the suspect had allegedly been involved in another pursuit in Monroe County earlier that same evening. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office had terminated the first chase but provided a description of the vehicle, which the Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies later identified.
Fortunately, the injured Mooresville police officer was subsequently released from the hospital. The details surrounding their condition or the extent of their injuries were not immediately provided by officials or mentioned in the reports by local news outlets.
