In the pre-dawn stillness of Lincoln Park, a series of fierce flames tore through the tranquility, setting ablaze several garages and damaging vehicles within the vicinity. The Chicago Fire Department was dispatched to the 2000 blocks of North Fremont Street and North Dayton Street, where they confronted the infernos in the blackened chill of early Wednesday morning.
Upon arrival, firefighters faced a challenging scene. According to ABC7 Chicago, five to six garages were ablaze, necessitating crews to forcibly cut through some garage doors to quell the fires — all while navigating downed power lines, a hazardous accompaniment to the destruction at hand. The fires were professionally extinguished, and no injuries were reported by the fire department.
On the adjoining North Dayton Street, the conflagration's touch was similarly felt. The Chicago Sun-Times notes that several vehicles fell victim to the flames. Though damage to these material possessions was significant, no residences were harmed, and residents were spared displacement or bodily harm.
The cause of the fires is currently under the microscope of the Chicago Fire Department's Office of Fire Investigations, with spokesperson Larry Merritt acknowledging to the press, "It was not immediately known if foul play was suspected." Both the Chicago police and fire departments are digging into the evening's eerie events, seeking to uncover the source of such sudden destruction.
