Residents of the Valley witnessed peculiar incidents involving wayward automobiles on waterways this past week. Specifically, in Tempe, a car was discovered in a canal near Arizona Mills, just south of Loop 202, on Thursday. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Tempe Fire Medical reported that they initiated a water rescue, but found that the sole occupant had managed to self-extricate and no injuries were reported.
Similarly, before dawn early Saturday, another vehicle was found resting in a central Phoenix canal near 24th Street and Thomas Road. The Phoenix Fire Department had hoped to quickly assist any possible victims but confirmed empty seats upon arrival. "Crews were able to confirm that there was no one inside the car," stated the department in a news release, as reported by 12 News.
The causes behind these vehicles' unexpected plunge into aquatic surroundings remain a mystery as of now. Investigations are underway, and the scenes have since been handed over to their respective police departments, as per 12 News. Both incidents, taking place in the span of a mere couple of days, have certainly prompted curiosity as well as concern amongst local communities and authorities alike.
