Following an intensive police operation, three teenagers have been detained in connection with a series of carjackings. The Nashville Police Department reported that Gerson Toz, 15, Jesus Orellana-Delcid, 15, and Josua Perez, 16, were taken into custody after reportedly stealing several vehicles at gunpoint.
The youths were apprehended after a series of events that began with the theft of a Toyota Tacoma. According to the Nashville Police Department, a man was accosted by the armed suspects who demanded his wallet and phone before taking off in his Saturn last Saturday morning. Shortly after, the suspects allegedly targeted a woman in her Infiniti Q70, forcing her out of the vehicle before setting the previously hijacked Saturn on fire and abandoning it.
The pursuit escalated when a police helicopter spotted the stolen Infiniti, prompting ground units into action. Detectives strategically placed spike strips to hinder the stolen vehicle, forcing the suspects to abandon it and flee on foot. The teens were subsequently located in a wooded area thanks to the combined efforts of the aviation unit, canine officers, South Precinct officers, and Violent Crime detectives, resulting in their capture.
During the pursuit, a rifle and a handgun were discarded by the suspects and later recovered by the police. These findings were documented with photographs, although images of the juveniles have been withheld due to ongoing investigations. Each suspect is currently facing charges in Juvenile Court. The Nashville Police Department has not ruled out the possibility that the trio may be involved in additional cases, which may account for the current withholding of their photos.
