During National Crime Victims Rights Week, Cobb County District Attorney Sonya F. Allen revealed a new mural at the RedBud Blossom Family Justice Center, a space dedicated to aiding victims of domestic abuse and violent crime. The unveiling ceremony took place on April 9, and the mural, a collaborative effort painted by the community and partner organizations on March 29, is designed to provide hope and comfort to those seeking assistance, with the main piece stretching across a striking 14 feet by 10 feet, according to an announcement on the county's official website.
"We chose a name that does more than label a building—we chose a name that speaks to the heart of our mission: to create a space that is warm, welcoming, and unwavering in its commitment to justice and compassion," Allen stated, as mentioned in the county's news release, highlighting how the center's name and the accompanying phrase "Hope Lives Here" were selected to resonate with the center's core values not just act as placeholders for its existence within the community's landscape.
The newly named Family Justice Center, which opened its doors to the public in January 2024, integrates various service providers under one roof, following the model laid out by the Family Justice Center Alliance, this approach simplifies the process for victims to access the help they need without the burden of navigating multiple agencies. Since its inception, the RedBud Blossom Cobb County Family Justice Center has extended its services to over 230 clients from across 14 counties in Georgia and two neighboring states, a testament to its reach and necessity.
Both Marsy's Law for Georgia and the art-focused nonprofit Paint Love played instrumental roles in the development and beautification of the center, the former, a victims' rights advocacy group named after a tragic figure who fell victim to a broken system, and the latter, providing art programming aimed at empowering youth facing poverty and trauma through artist-led projects which serve as an avenue for healing and expression. The RedBud Blossom Family Justice Center, located at 277 Fairground St. SE, Marietta, GA 30060, is a beacon of hope and embodies the resilience and transformation symbolized by its name and the hummingbird found within its logo.
