The Newton County Board of Commissioners has approved the installation of a new crosswalk signal at a popular trail crossing. On Tuesday, the board unanimously agreed to add a High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signal on the Bypass Road near the Cricket Frog Trail to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, as per the Newton County release.
The installation, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation, aims to enhance safety for those crossing the road. Trail users will be able to activate the signal with the push of a button to stop traffic.
While no official timeline has been set for the installation, the initiative reflects Newton County's commitment to pedestrian safety and promoting outdoor activities.
