On last Saturday, Newton County Fire Services, in collaboration with the Red Cross, held a Smoke Alarm Blitz in the Enclave subdivision, offering free smoke alarm installations to residents who signed up. The initiative aimed to improve fire safety by having volunteers go door-to-door to install alarms and provide fire safety information.
According to the Newton County government website, 90 out of 750 households in the Enclave participated in the event. Smoke alarms are crucial for early fire detection, yet many households did not take part in the event, leaving fire safety unaddressed in numerous homes.
While the Fire Services and the Red Cross provided the necessary equipment and services, community involvement remains essential to ensure widespread safety. The initiative in the Enclave is one example of community efforts to improve fire safety, with ongoing opportunities for residents to receive free smoke alarms and installations.
