A Niles man, Matthew Cameron, age 40, was arrested in Nebraska after being charged with multiple counts of aggravated battery for allegedly groping teenage girls in Park Ridge, Illinois. As per details shared by the Chicago Sun-Times, Cameron is connected to at least four incidents that took place between August 23 and September 5 last year, where girls aged between 12 and 14 were targeted.
Park Ridge police reported that evidence from surveillance cameras and public tips were instrumental in identifying Cameron as the alleged perpetrator. After detectives learned that Cameron had fled the state, they issued a nationwide arrest warrant. Found at a rest stop in Nebraska on April 11, he waived his right to extradition, bringing his case back within reach of Illinois' jurisdiction while absconding from justice.
According to the FOX 32 Chicago report, local authorities, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Metro Fugitive Task Force and Nebraska State Patrol, apprehended Cameron without incident. After his apprehension at the rest stop along Interstate 80, he was transported back to Park Ridge by detectives on April 22 and formally charged.
Currently, Cameron has been taken to the Skokie Courthouse, where a detention hearing was conducted. With each passing second, the gravity of the allegations against him and the subsequent legal procedures serve to punctuate the timeline of his alleged offenses. The case continues to unfold as the community grapples with the unsettling events that led up to these charges.
