In an effort to increase public safety for the city's most vulnerable residents, the North Miami Police Department, in partnership with AngelSense, has launched the Guardian Program, an initiative designed to provide GPS tracking devices for individuals with cognitive disabilities such as autism, Alzheimer's disease, and dementia. According to the city's announcement, the program began yesterday, offering real-time location tracking to quickly reunite caregivers with their missing loved ones.
The advanced tracking technology provided by AngelSense allows for not only up-to-the-minute location updates, but also for setting up alerts if the device wearer wanders outside of predefined safe zones, wearing these devices can help mitigate the risks faced by individuals when they become missing and could be in danger, the North Miami Police Department will also have direct access to the tracking data, streamlining the search and rescue process. Chief Cherise G. Gause of the NMPD told the public, "By joining the Guardian Program, we unite with families in a shared mission to protect and care for our most vulnerable community members."
