Residents of Oakland, Tennessee received a warning from their local police department, urging the community to increase their vigilance when it comes to securing their vehicles and personal property. In a social media post, the Oakland Police Department relayed the message that vehicles should always be locked when parked, and personal items, especially valuables such as firearms, iPads, laptops, and expensive jewelry, should never be left inside. "Even when locking your vehicle you always have a chance of someone wanting your stuff more than you do," the department cautioned.
The announcement came after a series of thefts over the weekend. Notably, in the Countryside/Burton Place area, two handguns were stolen from the same unlocked vehicle, and an unlocked pickup truck was taken with the keys left inside.
Along with the primary guidance, local authorities recommended several preventive measures for residents to enhance their security. These included removing all personal items from vehicles—not just valuables—and using exterior lighting at night to deter potential thieves.
