Paul Hicks of Huron County, Ohio, has been arrested for the murder of his wife, Regina Hicks, dating back to an event 24 years prior. As reported by Local 12, the cold case resurrected when Hicks was indicted on three counts of murder and one count of kidnapping. Regina Hicks vanished on October 18, 2001, after leaving her boyfriend’s home and her body was later discovered in her car submerged in a pond. In a statement obtained by Fox 19, BCI investigators surmise Paul Hicks assaulted his ex-wife, leaving her unconscious. This grim narrative encompasses both the loss of Regina Hicks and the trajectory of a man now facing the consequences of an allegation that long eluded resolution.
Paul Hicks, who was formerly entangled in legal proceedings within Clermont County for unrelated crimes, is embroiled once again with the law. In a twist of fate, initially, Hicks was charged with aggravated arson in a separate instance where he attempted to implicate his ex in a staged fire incident at his residence, said the WLWT. Drenched in fathomless deceit, Hicks had recorded the scene with cameras, ensuring the recording device was shielded inside a fireproof box. This box would outlive the flames and, he hoped, anchor his narrative. His bid to frame his ex-girlfriend, whom he claimed was caught on tape wearing a mask, ultimately collapsed beneath the weight of truth.
In 2019, after being indicted on serious charges, including aggravated arson and insurance fraud, Hicks turned himself into Clermont County authorities. According to court records cited by WLWT, Hicks entered into a plea agreement, pleading no contest to one count of misdemeanor insurance fraud, which resulted in a sentence to community control. In a civil lawsuit that followed, Allstate Insurance emerged victorious, culminating in Hicks's agreement to pay a restitution of $400,000 to the company.
Repercussions from Hicks's past actions had rippling effects; not only had he been previously involved in the 2015 arson case, but his recent murder charge resurrects the specter of his criminal history. Holding a not guilty plea in the Huron County indictment, Hicks now faces a $2 million bond. "Paul Hicks has been indicted in her death," Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost confirmed the indictment, as mentioned by Fox 19.
