Flames engulfed an Oklahoma City apartment complex early this morning, resulting in significant damage and challenging firefighters as they battled to extinguish the blaze. According to KFOR, fire crews arrived at the scene near SE 15th St. and High Ave. around 4 a.m. to find the fire tearing through the roof of the building. Despite their efforts, four units were heavily damaged by the flames.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department had to quickly respond and try to contain the spread of the fire. News 9 reported that multiple apartment units caught fire, prompting an urgent call to service shortly after 4:30 a.m. Firefighters were faced with a significant challenge as they arrived to several units engulfed in flames.
Witnesses could see the large flames from miles away, underscoring the severity of the incident. KOCO 5 reported that the fire escalated to a three-alarm incident, requiring additional resources and manpower to combat the dangerous situation. Authorities confirmed to KOCO 5 that most of the apartment units were vacant, with the exception of one that was occupied at the far end of the building.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but its impact has left the local community shaken. Crews worked through the morning to put out the flames and prevent further damage. The investigation into the cause will begin soon, with updates expected as more information becomes available.
