A fatal fire in Wareham, Massachusetts, claimed the life of one individual and left another with serious injuries last night. NBC Boston reports that firefighters arrived at the scene on Kimberly Court around 8:40 p.m. to find a trailer ablaze.
Upon extinguishing the flames, which were contained to prevent damage to surrounding structures except for slight heat damage to a nearby building, they discovered one adult deceased and another seriously injured. Upon being rushed to the hospital, the surviving victim's condition was not detailed. The names of both adults have not yet been released by officials.
"This is a terrible tragedy for them and our community," Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Haskell was quoted, expressing condolences on behalf of the Wareham Fire Department in a statement obtained by NBC Boston.
While the cause of the fire is currently under investigation, 7NEWS reports that heavy smoke and flames were present when crews first responded to the reported structure fire around 8:45 p.m. A further update on this developing story is anticipated as investigators work to determine the source of the blaze.
