A high-speed incident involving a stolen vehicle led to a person of interest being apprehended in West Chester, according to local police reports. Today, around 2:40 a.m., a Flock camera system identified a blue 2019 Hyundai Elantra with a stolen license plate on Muhlhauser Road, prompting officers to give chase, WLWT reported.
The pursuit led the authorities to a neighborhood near Lakeshore Drive where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, and despite an extensive search, which included support from drone and K9 units from Trenton and Fairfield police, two of the three suspects evaded capture, as confirmed by FOX19 however, details regarding the identity of the person in custody or the charges they face were not immediately available while the search was undertaken for the remaining suspects, the situation remained tense and authorities were urging the public to stay vigilant.
As part of the comprehensive actions taken by law enforcement, officers asked a deputy with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the chase as it moved through the area of Barret Road and West Chester Road, citing the cooperative effort in the multi-agency response, Local12 added their reporting.
West Chester’s spokeswoman Brianna Wooten underscored the role of technology in identifying the stolen vehicle. "It all started when a license plate reader identified a blue 2019 Hyundai Elantra with a stolen license plate on Muhlhauser Road near IKEA," according to FOX19 News. She mentioned the community's collaborative law enforcement and technology playing a crucial part in the ongoing investigation even as the police continue to gather evidence and investigate the circumstances surrounding the vehicle theft and the subsequent chase.
