Oregon's Governor Tina Kotek has laid down a strategic plan to not only catch up but to also lead in the AI revolution. In a recent breakfast forum, Kotek revealed a $10 million investment focusing on AI workforce development, backed by a partnership with tech giant NVIDIA. In a move that promises to elevate Oregon's standing in tech innovation and economic growth, this collaboration aims to prepare the state's workforce for an AI-driven future.

The Governor's office released an official statement highlighting the goals of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Oregon and NVIDIA. "AI is transforming the way we live and work, and Oregon should not be left behind," Governor Kotek said, according to the official announcement. The partnership will leverage NVIDIA's expertise to rapidly upskill state workers, harness entrepreneurship, and better equip public service agencies with responsible AI integration.

Central to this initiative is the AI Ambassador Program, which NVIDIA will help to shape in collaboration with Oregon's Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) and local universities. A dedicated steering committee, featuring state and industry leaders, will oversee this program. HECC Director Ben Cannon noted, "This highly collaborative and tailored approach to training, innovation and research for some of the most high-demand fields in Oregon is designed to drive economic growth and open doors for diverse Oregonians to high-paying careers," in the same statement.

Furthermore, Governor Kotek is directing an additional $10 million from the Oregon CHIPS Act towards the Semiconductor Talent Sustaining Fund. The fund's aim is clear: to build a strong tech workforce that not only thrives in the state but also represents its diverse population. Louisiana Stewart, NVIDIA's Head of Strategic Initiatives, remarked, "Through this new collaboration, Oregon will have access to the NVIDIA technologies it needs to upskill and empower its workforce to innovate, compete and grow its economy," according to the same release. Such initiatives signify Oregon's commitment to ensuring that its workforce is prepared for the burgeoning AI sector.
