The Concord Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man on Monument Boulevard on Monday. The incident occurred near the intersection with Meadow Lane when patrol officers in the area and the CPD dispatch received reports of gunfire around 3 AM, according to the Concord Police Department.
Omar Gonzalez was found with fatal gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, identified as Chance Martin, a 27-year-old resident of Pittsburg, is believed to have returned to the scene after an earlier dispute with a group of males, allegedly opening fire from his vehicle. Concord Police Department's response was immediate, with detectives from the Major Crimes Unit swiftly taking over the investigation.
Following the incident, a collaborative effort led to Martin's arrest two days later in a coordinated operation involving the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Apprehension Task Force, Pleasant Hill Police Department, and Antioch Police Department. Martin was located during the execution of search warrants in Pleasant Hill and Antioch.
Charges have been filed against Martin by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. "Today, Concord Police Department detectives presented their case to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, who filed murder charges (187 PC) against Martin," the Concord Police Department stated. He has been booked at the Martinez Detention Facility and will remain in custody. The Concord Police are still gathering details and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
