
A routine traffic stop in Ramona has led to the arrest of a local man on several drug and firearms charges. According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, deputies stopped 31-year-old Matthew Pitonyak near State Route 67 for reckless driving on Thursday. The situation quickly escalated when they uncovered an assortment of illegal drugs in his vehicle.
Authorities stated Pitonyak's driver's license was suspended, and the car's registration had expired. A search further revealed he possessed four pills of Xanax, a sizeable 25 grams of fentanyl, and 1.43 grams of methamphetamine. A Drug Recognition Expert from the California Highway Patrol was brought in to possibly conduct an evaluation, suspecting Pitonyak might be under the influence of narcotics.
Following the home raid, Pitonyak was taken to the San Diego Central Jail. He now faces a slew of charges that include drug and firearms offenses, alongside driving under the influence of a controlled substance. As reported by the Sheriff's Department, Pitonyak is currently booked and awaiting further legal proceedings.
