The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for the morning of April 30, heralds the start of construction on the site once occupied by the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant.
The spotlight of this launch shines on a new 157,000-square-foot advanced technology facility that will serve as the new headquarters for Micro Control Company. Settling its foundation on 10 acres within the larger 40-acre commercial parcel, Outlot A, the facility breaks ground, representing not just a building, but an emblem of progress on the redevelopment journey.
As noted by Ramsey County officials, Rice Creek Commons stands on land once tarnished by its past industrial uses, but now cleared from state and federal Superfund lists. Following extensive cleanup, the Joint Development Authority has ambitious plans for the 427-acre swath to burgeon into a diverse and sustainable community, featuring a mix of housing options and economic opportunities—all part of a vision anchored in long-term growth.
Economic forecasts for the redevelopment site are bullish, with the total estimated development value pegged around $1 billion.
