Redwood City has taken a significant step forward in community development with the City Council's fresh nod to a project that promises to enhance El Camino Real. The comprehensive plan, which includes a six-story office building at 901 El Camino Real, plays a dual role by incorporating a teen center and much-anticipated affordable housing. This comes after a long period of anticipation and planning, as reported by SF YIMBY.
According to details shared by the developers and mentioned in the San Mateo Daily Journal, the civic venture will yield a multipurpose space designed for local teens in addition to the commercial office quarters. Circling back to the office building's genesis, a generous gesture comes into the spotlight with JP Morgan, Kenson Ventures, and Minkoff Group donating the land for the affordable housing unit at 920 Shasta Street, signifying a community-first philosophy.
The office building, designed by HGA Architects, will not only cater to business needs with approximately 305,230 square feet of space dedicated to offices but will also house a 6,600-square-foot teen center. This mixed-use development promises to strike a balance between work and community, with an additional 4,000-square-foot public open space named Chrysanthemum Plaza echoing the city's rich horticultural past.
