An alleged armed robbery suspect has been arrested following a swift response from the Redwood City Police Department. The department reported that on Tuesday, amidst the buzz of the evening commute, a shoplifting turned armed robbery incident unfolded at the Sequoia Station located on the 1000 Block of El Camino Real. According to the Redwood City Police Department, after being confronted by security, the suspect threatened them with a firearm before fleeing the scene.
Although officers arrived quickly, they were initially delayed by a barricade. By the time they got through, the suspect had already disappeared into the surrounding neighborhood. However, detectives used surveillance technology to quickly share a photo and description of the suspect with other officers and nearby law enforcement agencies. Just one day later, those efforts paid off.
An officer handling an unrelated call near Woodside Road and Broadway spotted someone matching the suspect’s description. After calling for backup, officers carried out a coordinated approach and safely took the suspect into custody. During a search, they found a loaded gun hidden in his jacket pocket.
The suspect, 19-year-old Isaiah Karan of San Bruno, is now facing multiple charges, including armed robbery and possession of weapons and drugs. He has been booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
The Redwood City Police Department asks for the public’s help in gathering more information. Detective Erik Otterson urged anyone with details to contact him at (650) 780-7100.
