Last Thursday night in Concord, chaos ensued when a traffic stop turned into a shootout and a dramatic chase. According to a social media post from the Concord Police Department, the incident began shortly after 10 pm when a patrol officer attempted to pull over a Chrysler sedan on Ellis Street, near Clayton Road. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Eric Darrall Foreman from Richmond, fled on foot after his car collided with another vehicle, leading police on a pursuit that would involve gunfire and a K9 unit before it came to an end.

During the foot chase, Foreman dashed through an apartment complex with an officer in hot pursuit, eventually reaching a PetSmart parking lot. It was here, standing amid the parked cars, that Foreman, who was commanded to halt, produced a handgun from his clothing and turned towards the officer, which led to the first officer-involved shooting of the night. Despite the shots, Foreman continued his flight across the parking lot and down Clayton Road's sidewalk. Then, in front of 1741 Clayton Road, a second shooting occurred when Foreman, confronting another officer, aimed his handgun once more, yet again escaping unscathed.

A perimeter was quickly established by the authorities in an attempt to corner Foreman, calling in additional support that included a Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, a K9 officer, a drone team, and officers from Pittsburg PD and Pleasant Hill PD. According to the Concord Police Department, it was the Sheriff's Office K9 that eventually apprehended Foreman, who was still armed with a loaded handgun.

An investigation jointly undertaken by Concord Police Department detectives and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab revealed that Foreman had indeed attempted to shoot at the officers. Having been booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, today he faces a slew of charges presented by the Concord Police Department Major Crimes Unit to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office, including multiple counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
