Over a seven-day blitz termed "Operation Consequences," law enforcement in San Bernardino County has clamped down on local crime, focusing on gang suppression and unlawful possession of firearms and narcotics. According to a release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the operation, spanning from April 7 to April 13, resulted in a series of arrests and seizures that targeted the 10200 block of Phelan Road in Phelan and widened to other county areas.
Investigators from the Sheriff's Gangs/Narcotics Division, accompanied by patrol deputies and officials from partnering agencies, served a search warrant and contacted persons known to be gang members or prohibited from gun possession. Although the operation covered expansive grounds, the sheriff's department has not detailed the specifics when the three firearms were seized, including a ghost gun, nor when exactly the narcotics were secured.
As a part of the operation’s tally, nine felony and 19 misdemeanor arrests were booked by the authorities. "Operation Consequences" comes in the wake of California voters approving Proposition 36 last November, aiming to counteract theft, drug addiction, and rising homelessness. This act, in effect since December 18, 2024, modified previous laws, particularly those from Proposition 47. The changes allow for enhanced sentences and pre-trial detention under the new charges that were applied to two of the arrests made during last week's crackdown, as mentioned in a sheriff's department release.
